Musician John Mark Jones was a Lexington high school teacher fifty years ago when a friend gave him a poem about the flooding caused by Hurricane Camille and asked him to set it to music.

He says "The Night of the Flood" was the first song he ever wrote, but it was released as a record in January 1970, and has been used at ceremonies and commemorations ever since.

He'll be singing it again at an event Sunday at Parry McCluer High School marking the anniversary.
